One traveller's day-by-day account of a year-long journey through Japan, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada

was busy fighting jetlag, having arrived this morning from Heathrow. She was the first British traveller I'd met properly so far, and it felt great to have someone to discuss British nuances and afternoon tea with.

I left her battling her eyelids and headed straight back out to find a bank. I walked for hours and never did find the branch I was looking for, but I did get to see some peculiar sights on the way, including a couple carrying a bag between them with a Siamese cat sat atop it, a bank with what seemed to be an army swat team outside with camo gear and M-16 automatic rifles, and a shop sign that amusingly read "BOMB PLASTIC is chosen carefully for you." Reassuring, I think...

I braved some more street food on the way back, unfortunately a bland onion-filled pancake thing, and ended up in the hostel bar, joining the Norwegian, Italian and American international students again for a rematch in table football (1-1) - we decided there was an unlucky side to the table, as all games were lost on the one side.

The guys were going on a trip to the Great Wall of China tomorrow morning, so I signed up too and hit the hay early for an excrutiating 6am start.
