Day 94: 5th May
Fall Back!
The flag of Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

Being ill is obviously never a barrel of laughs, but it is ten times worse in a strange environment. Both Noesha and I wanted out of Laos. It's a real shame, but our experience of the country had been tarnished by our illnesses. I hope to give the South of Laos another chance after Cambodia.

I felt a bit better today, although my stomach still felt so bloated that an alien face hugger could burst out of it at any moment. Noesha's (or Mrs James, as she scarily started to call herself) eye didn't show much sign of improvement, so we decided the best thing to do was to perform a tactical retreat to Bangkok to recover in a familiar environment, where the medical facilities were a million times better. A bus sprint for the border saw us crossing the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge and boarding an overnight train to Bangkok.

We had a friendly carriage attendant who insisted on calling me Tom Cruise. "Tom Cruise - Last Samurai!". I think it was the beard. What the hell, I went along with it and even started a mock samurai sword fight with him :)
