Day 179: 29th July
The flag of Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand

My last full day in Bangkok - not that it was eventful in any sense. I simply waltzed around Chinatown, an area which I had pretty much previously neglected.

The film The Beach has a lot to answer for. It gave me an image of Bangkok and its guesthouses that I never discovered in reality - until now. The 7 Holder Guesthouse in which I lay my head this evening looked to be straight out of the film, with its tiny rooms spilt by paper thin wicker partitions, a swishing, wonky fan overhead and graffiti covering the walls, to which I added my own particular pearl of wisdom.

And so from tomorrow I would have to find a new home-from-home as I set out southwards to the beach party Gulf island of Ko Pha Ngan, then into Malaysia and finally towards Singapore, my exit point from Asia. Asia's been all I've known for the last six months, and it's been so captivating, I really don't like to think about leaving.
