drank a few tinnies procured from the 7 Eleven. The beach was occupied by the obligatory hippy fire jugglers in their tie-dye clothes and natty dreadlocks (two years to grow, ten seconds to burn: better not make a mistake Quentin, I thought).

We got chatting to a group of British girls next to us who had also just arrived and were equally pissed off with Hat Rin. We all played cards, did some magic tricks and generally had a good old knees up until the wee hours of the morn.

Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand

Waking up early for the boat transfer and reflecting on the good time I had yesterday evening, I briefly regretted my rash decision to evacuate the island today. But opening the door to my shack and finding outside it was more blustery and overcast than ever, my decision was vindicated.

So I never really gave Ko Pha Ngan a chance. I hope I will some day; possibly in the twilight years of my late twenties I might return in better weather and with company to boot to a quieter beach, such as Bottle Beach in the North that comes highly recommended by Robin of/p>
